When the founder of Aikido spoke of Masakatsu Agatsu he was speaking about more than just victory in combat. This concept is far reaching and is less about controlling and opponent and more about personal development and skill. Victory is not the conquering of an opponent but the mastery of the self.
Agatsu programs develop self mastery through the exploration of physical movement. We become masters of the self by learning to control our bodies, first through body weight training and secondly by working against resistance. The resistance may come in the form of Kettlebells, barbells, dumbbells or any other training equipment. Regardless it is our understanding and control of our bodies that helps us overcome this resistance and in our lives helps us overcome other obstacles.
We are more than fit. We are students of movement on a never ending quest to join mind and body, will and action. When my bodies performance matches my minds vision then I experience Masakatsu Agatsu.
